About Aging Independence
Evidence-first guidance for the decade ahead — for older adults and the families standing alongside them.
Aging Independence exists for one purpose: to help adults stay strong, sharp, and self-sufficient through every decade after 60 — and to help the family members standing alongside them when independence starts to slip.
We’re a small team of writers, researchers, and editors with backgrounds in healthcare, gerontology, physical therapy, and senior caregiving. Where appropriate, our work is reviewed by clinicians, certified aging-in-place specialists, and family caregivers who have lived the situations we write about.
What We Believe
Most loss of independence is not inevitable — it’s the result of decisions made (or not made) years before. The right home modifications, the right exercises, the right conversations, the right systems put in place at the right time can extend the years someone lives in their own home, on their own terms, by a decade or more.
Our job is to translate the research, the clinical guidelines, and the lived experience of older adults and their families into something you can actually use this week.
How We Write
- Evidence-first. We cite peer-reviewed research, clinical guidelines, and government data sources rather than opinions.
- Action-oriented. Every guide ends with concrete steps you can take in the next seven days.
- Plain-spoken. We don’t patronize. Our readers are adults, and we write to them as such.
- Independent. We accept no payment for product placements or favorable reviews. When we recommend something, it’s because we believe it’s the right tool for the job.
What We Cover
Our work is organized around four hubs:
- Maintaining Independence — the highest-leverage decisions for staying strong after 60.
- Caregiver Search — the difficult conversations and decisions family caregivers face.
- Mobility & Real-World Capability — the functional benchmarks that actually predict the next decade.
- Aging in Place — the room-by-room playbook for fitting a home to your future needs.
